Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project – Director Max Tzannes, Cinematographer Jacob Souza, & Composer David San Miguel

FOUND FOOTAGE: THE MAKING OF THE PATTERSON PROJECT is a heartfelt attempt by ta very dedicated and serious first time director, Chase, to produce his first feature, a found footage movie about Bigfoot. Through the eyes of an esteemed French documentary crew, the story follows his unlikely band of misfits as they struggle to keep the production afloat on a shoestring budget. All the while, mysterious and sinister occurrences begin to unfold behind the scenes, blurring the lines between movie magic and real life. As the shoot days get longer and scarier, the filmmakers quickly learn that they’ve stepped into a very real and very terrifying found footage film of their own. The film captures the playful gritty beauty that comes with a true indie film. Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project is a labor of love created by friends who came together with a passion for film. All that is to say, despite its green cast and crew, the film still provides solid acting, production and laugh-out-loud comedy – a testament to Max, Jacob David  and the entire production team at Dirty Shot Clean.

Interview with Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project filmmakers Max Tzannes, Jacob Souza and David San Miguel

Director’s statement – As a director, you grow accustomed to the feeling that a chaos demon is terrorizing your set. Whatever can go wrong often does, but it’s always a blessing in disguise. Because that’s when the real fun starts. I wrote Found Footage as a bloody love letter to the terrifying experience of making an independent feature film. It also dabbles in two of my favorite subgenres, mockumentary and found footage, drawing inspiration from classics like THIS IS SPINAL TAP and THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. By spotlighting our soft spot for indie filmmaking and paying homage to heroes like Christopher Guest, our hope is that we made a horror movie that is so funny and endearing that even people who don’t like horror movies are compelled to watch to the bitter end.

About the filmmaker – Director / Writer / Producer.  Since co-founding the production company Dirty Shot Clean (DSC) in 2018, Max Tzannes has written and directed a number of projects, which include feature films, award winning narrative shorts, documentaries and music videos. His first feature film, Et Tu, stars Lou Diamond Phillips and Malcolm McDowell and is currently being sold by XYZ Films.

About the filmmaker – David San Miguel – Writer / Composer / Producer / Script Supervisor.   “As early as I can remember, I’ve had a deep connection with music. Growing up, my grandma and great-grandma would fill the house with song, transporting me to exciting and wondrous places with their mastery over the piano. Every time they sat down to play, I wanted nothing more than to take people on those magical, emotional, and otherwise impossible journeys they so effortlessly crafted with only their fingertips. It was in those notes I discovered what I wanted to do with my life. And the dream was set in motion. After years of dedication to the study, the practice, and a well-fed imagination, I finally found my way into that mystic realm of unparalleled story-telling. Still to this day, nothing hits home more than a perfectly crafted score. There is no greater universal language, nothing that can compel an audience in such a deeply visceral way. That’s why I make music. Composing and discovering that perfect sound is so satisfying. I sometimes can’t believe that I’m lucky enough to be a part of that magic!” – David San Miguel (dsmcomposer.com)
